The Hebrew Scriptures divide the Prophetic Books into the “Former Prophets” and the “Latter Prophets.” The books of the “Former Prophets” (Joshua, Judges, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings) are part of the Historical Books in the Old Testament.   The word ‘na•vi’ is one of two used in the Bible for a prophet. The other is ‘cho•ze,’ which is translated as ‘seer.’ The word ‘na•vi’ is a derivative of the root verb ‘bo.’ (The English phonetic transliteration of ‘bo’ fails to show the connection to ‘na•vi,’ but the Hebrew letters are consistent).

Since this Zechariah is the last martyr mentioned in the Hebrew Bible (as the book we know as 2 Chronicles is the last book in the Hebrew arrangement), many think that Jesus must be referring to this Zechariah (they explain Jesus’ mention of . The Book of Isaiah (Hebrew: ספר ישעיהו, IPA: [sɛ.fɛr ]) is the first of the Latter Prophets in the Hebrew Bible and the first of the Major Prophets in the Christian Old Testament. It is identified by a superscription as the words of the 8th-century BCE prophet Isaiah ben Amoz, but there is extensive evidence that much of it was composed during the Babylonian.

The Minor Prophets is a collection of twelve Old Testament books, known simply as “the Twelve” or “the Book of the Twelve” in the Hebrew Bible. The title “minor” refers to length, not significance. Roughly in chronological order, each of these short books gives a glimpse into the spiritual landscape and history of Israel. The Minor Prophets or Twelve Prophets (Aramaic: תרי עשר‎, Trei Asar, "Twelve"), occasionally Book of the Twelve, is the last book of the Nevi'im, the second main division of the Jewish Tanakh.

This book would better be called an introduction to the Hebrew prophets. It admirably fulfills that role. Reading the title, I thought the book would situate the prophets in their social location. It is weak at that.
